What is a Step Down Transformer?
Devices that are used to step
down electrical current at input power sources, which allows
voltage to be compatible with equipment. |
|
|
Voltage Transformers
Transformers that are designed
for specific applications that need specified electrical
voltage. |
|
|
Step Up Transformers
A transformer that has the
secondary winding higher than the primary allowing the
transformer to increase input voltage. |
|
|
Power Transformers
Devices that convert the
incoming line voltage to a higher or lower electrical
current to match voltage of equipment. |
|
|
Three Phase Transformers
Transformers that are used
throughout industry to change values of three phase voltage
and current. |
|
|
Isolation Transformers
Transformers that transfer
energy from the alternating current supply to an electrical
load. They prevent certain types of harmonics. |
|
|
Buck Boost Transformers
Buck Boost devices are used to
make small adjustments to incoming voltages such as
lighting applications. |
|
|
Phase Converters
Devices that convert single phase power into three phase
power. |

Three
Phase
Transformers
Three phase transformers
were designed because three phase electricity is used for power
distribution systems to step up or step down voltage. A single phase
transformer's configurations could be used in these applications.
However, three
phase transformers are able to perform better with less material
requirements, less size, and less weight than the single phase
transformers.
A three phase transformer
is constructed by placing three single phase transformers on a
single core. They are then put in an enclosure, which is filled with
dielectric oil. This oil is a nonconductor of electricity, and it
provides electrical insulation between the windings and the case. It
also provides cooling and prevents moisture from forming, which can
deteriorate the winding insulation.
The main benefits of using
three phase transformers are that all three wires can carry the
same current. Secondary, they provide a balanced and linear load.
If you do not have a balanced load, it can result in damaged motors and
equipment by causing over heating. A great resource for all your
three phase transformers is
TEMCo Three Phase Transformers.
They offer quality, energy efficient three phase transformers.
Three phase transformers have four possible connection
combinations:
-
Delta to Delta - for use
in industrial applications
-
Delta to Wye - for use in
industrial and commercial applications
-
Wye to Delta - used for
high voltage transmissions
-
Wye to Wye - used very
rarely, because it causes harmonics and does not provide a
balanced load
Always remember, when
purchasing a three phase transformer, seek out a more
reputable and experienced manufacturer such as
Acme
Step Down Transformers . A quality manufacturer will save you money in
the long run and will provide you many years of quality service. |
